The past decade, nanomaterials have attracted great scientific and technological interest due to their promising application in diverse fields. Size- and shape- dependent unique nanocrystals’ properties, make them promising building blocks for fabricating various optoelectronic, energy storage and conversion devices, but also to be used as mediators for diagnosis and treatment in nanomedicine. Their properties, but also the application performance is directly related with their morphology (single-phase, multi-phase heterostructures or controlled assemblies), dimensions and composition. Quantum confined effects, but also collective properties could be presented in the nanomaterials that make them important building blocks for applications. Among promising applications nanomedicine relies on the development of innovative nanomaterials with novel electronic, magnetic and structural properties that are unique at the nanoscale level. In this context, the design and development of nanobiomaterial systems are essential for the understanding of molecular and cellular interactions. This innovation plays a significant role in the diagnosis and treatment, as well as the prevention of diseases at early stages. The main objective of this Workshop is to provide specialists from different science backgrounds working in the fields of Nanomaterials/Nanochemistry and physics to Nanomedicine/Nanosafety and engineering of the nanocrystal-based devices to discuss the current state-of-the-art on the synthesis, characterization and applications of advanced functional nanomaterials.
