Heraklion is directly connected to Athens International Airport (ATH) with daily domestic flights run by Aegean Airlines. 2-4 direct flights per day are from Thessaloniki (SKG). There are also other direct scheduled airline connections from major European cities as well as many charter flights from most European countries.
Alternatively, one can use the ferry-boat connecting Heraklion with the harbour of Piraeus (Athens). Connections are offered by Minoan Lines and ANEK Lines and the overnight trip takes about 7 hours. Kazantzakis Heraklion International Airport (airport code HER) is located 5 kilometers east of the city of Heraklion.
By car:
The airport is located just off the E75 motorway and can also be reached via the main road “Ikarou” from the city center.
By Taxi:
The use of a taxi is a convenient and relatively not expensive means of transportation in Heraklion. Taxis in Heraklion are colored silver. From the Airport to the center of town (where Candia Maris hotel is located), the cost of a taxi is approximately 10 to 15 Euros.
You can find a lot around in the city streets. You can find them also waiting at the airport, the port, the bus stations, in the Lion’s Square, the “Eleftherias Square”, and in “Kornarou Square”.
By Public Transportation:
There is a frequent public bus service from Heraklion Airport to the center of town. The bus stop is a few minutes’ walk from the terminal building. You can buy your tickets prior to getting onto the bus from the ticket machine or the kiosk next to the bus stop. The current price of the bus-tickets is 1.20 Euros (one way) from Airport to the center of town.
